Dodgers Roster: Max Muncy Returns From Paternity List, Sheldon Neuse Optioned

Max Muncy was added back to the Los Angeles Dodgers active roster after being on paternity leave over the weekend, and Sheldon Neuse was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Although the Dodgers are off Monday, a roster move was required as players are only permitted to remain on the paternity list for a maximum of three days.

L.A. went 2-1 during the three games Muncy was away from the team to be with his wife for the birth of their first child. The couple welcomed Sophie Kate last Friday, with the birth planned around Muncy not missing any games against the San Francisco Giants.

He had been on alert to potentially start paternity leave coming out of the All-Star break, and in preparation the Dodgers had Zach Reks on the taxi squad while playing at Coors Field.

The brief time away presumably allowed for Muncy to also recover from any residual soreness after being hit by a pitch in the right shoulder blade. It occurred in the second game of last week’s series against the Giants and forced Muncy to an early exit.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the slugger was having trouble raising his right arm, though Muncy was in the lineup for each of the next two games.

Neuse struggled with Dodgers

Neuse returns to Oklahoma City after another underwhelming stint — only his second — with the Dodgers. He appeared in five games (one start) after being recalled last Wednesday, going 1-for-7 with four strikeouts.

The latest stretch also included a defensive miscue at second base that cost the Dodgers a run and was a factor in their loss to the Giants.

Neuse is batting just .169 (11-for-65) with one double, three home runs and four RBI over 33 games (13 starts) with the Dodgers this season.
