The Los Angeles Dodgers claimed Ian Gibaut off waivers from the Cleveland Guardians and transferred Daniel Hudson to the 60-day injured list in order to make room on their 40-man roster.

Gibaut was designated for assignment on Tuesday as a corresponding move to the Guardians trading for Sandy Leon. The 28-year-old was selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 11th round of the 2015 MLB Draft.

Gibaut made his MLB debut with the Rays in 2019 and has also pitched for the Texas Rangers (2020-21), Minnesota Twins (2021) and Guardians this season. Though, the right-hander only appeared in one game for the Guardians before getting DFA’d.

Over parts of four seasons in the Majors he’s 1-2 with a 5.19 ERA, 5.27 FIP and 1.50 WHIP in 28 relief appearances.

Gibaut had a 3.20 ERA in 19.2 innings for Triple-A Columbus this season and carries a career 4.15 ERA, 29% strikeout rate and 10.9% walk rate at that level.

Gibaut is a lifetime 20-13 with a 3.17 ERA and 38 saves in 210 games (two starts) in the Minors.

Dodgers lose Hudson for season

Already without Blake Treinen and Tommy Kahnle, among others, the Dodgers lost Hudson to injury when he suffered a torn ACL in his left knee.

Hudson has been ruled out for the remainder of the season and is likely to undergo surgery. He’s hopeful to continue pitching next year despite the long rehab process ahead and being due to become a free agent after the 2022 season.

Hudson went 2-3 with a 2.22 ERA and 0.90 WHIP over 25 games this season. It marked a second stint with the Dodgers as he spent the 2018 season with the franchise after signing a Minor League contract.

Hudson finished 3-2 with a 4.11 ERA and 1.22 WHIP that year.
