Dodgers Roster: Gavin Stone Transferred To 60-Day Injured List

Gavin Stone was transferred to the 60-day injured list as a corresponding move to the Los Angeles Dodgers officially re-signing Kiké Hernández to a one-year, $6.5 million contract for the 2025 season.

Stone was among several candidates the Dodgers have this spring who are likely to wind up on the 60-day IL at some point. The right-hander ended last season in the same position because of a shoulder injury that ultimately required surgery.

Dr. Neal ElAttrache performed the operation on Stone’s throwing shoulder on Oct. 9, 2024. Stone joined River Ryan, Emmet Sheehan, Kyle Hurt and Dustin May as young Dodgers pitchers who had surgery last year.

Prior to undergoing surgery late in the year, Stone was keeping some level of optimism he would manage to return and help the Dodgers in the postseason given their shortage of starters.

That never came to pass, and Stone’s last game was Aug. 31. He finished the 2024 season with an 11-5 record to go along with a 3.53 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 25 starts.

Stone had been the only member of the Dodgers’ Opening Day rotation to make every scheduled start before his stint on the 15-day injured list began.

Among other highlights for Stone during the 2024 season was notching his first career shutout and getting to pitch to Hunter Feduccia in the catcher’s MLB debut. Although Stone’s year ended in disappointment, he had a bounce-back season after struggling mightily in 2023.

So much so that he warranted consideration for a first career All-Star Game selection.

“I wouldn’t have bet on it coming into the season,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said last year. “But the way it has played out for three months, if that happened, man, it would certainly be well-deserved.”

What’s next for Gavin Stone

Stone technically is not eligible to be activated until May 17. However, indications from the Dodgers have been he will miss the entire 2025 season.
