Dodgers Roster: Daniel Hudson Transferred To 60-Day Injured List

The Los Angeles Dodgers transferred Daniel Hudson to the 60-day injured list in order to open a spot on their 40-man roster as he recovers from a right knee MCL sprain. Hudson was initially put on the 15-day IL on July 6.

Hudson suffered the knee injury while recording his first save since June of 2022. The veteran reliever loaded the bases with nobody out against the Pittsburgh Pirates before he escaped the jam without allowing a run.

“I just can’t put into words how frustrating and disappointing this is for him. So it’s an IL and it’s going to be quite some time,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts previously said. “He gutted it out. I don’t know how he made those last two pitches, but that’s kind of where we’re at.

Hudson appeared in just three games since he was last activated off the 60-day IL, which was due to his recovery from last year’s left ACL surgery that became a longer process than first expected and included multiple setbacks. During his appearances, Hudson pitched three scoreless innings with five strikeouts.

Hudson is not expected to require surgery for his latest knee injury, but Roberts added the right-hander will be out for a while. However, he declined to speculate on a potential timeline and if Hudson would be able to return this season.

“It’s difficult. Because I know the grind and what he’s gone through. You feel like an outcast when you’re not around,” Roberts said.

“You feel, ‘Why am I doing this? Is it worth it?’ And you finally get to a point where you’ve gotten back, and the highest of highs of getting a save, but then to kind of fall back once the adrenaline settles in and you realize that you’re back on the IL and you’re going to be missing a significant amount of time.

“My heart breaks for him. He was committed to coming back this year. Could’ve walked away last year, but committed to coming back. So for it to end right now the way it did, it hurts.”

Dodgers fill Daniel Hudson’s 40-man roster spot

The Dodgers acquired right-handed pitcher Tyson Miller from the Milwaukee Brewers and added him to their 40-man roster while transferring Hudson.

Miller was designated for assignment on July 8 after appearing in a career-high seven games for the Brewers this season. The 27-year-old turned in four scoreless appearances but struggled in other games and has a 5.79 ERA and 1.29 WHIP this season.
