The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled Andre Jackson and optioned Darien Núñez to Triple-A Oklahoma City ahead of their series opener against the Colorado Rockies.

The Dodgers have not yet announced a starting pitcher or opener, but Jackson figures to factor heavily into their bullpen game. Jackson made his MLB debut against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Aug. 16, throwing four scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

“It was awesome. It was everything I thought it was going to be and more,” Jackson said of his first career game in the Majors.

“It was weird. I didn’t have the nerves I thought I was going to have, so I’m very grateful for that. But that last pitch I threw, I really felt the energy of the crowd. It really was awesome. I don’t have words.”

The right-hander has primarily split the season between Double-A Tulsa and Oklahoma City, going a combined 5-2 with a 3.28 ERA and 81 strikeouts. Jackson made a start for Low-A Rancho Cucamonga after being optioned, allowing one run and collecting five strikeouts in 5.2 innings.

Núñez returns to OKC one night after getting recalled to provide a fresh arm in the bullpen. However, Núñez was not needed in the series finale against the San Diego Padres as Max Scherzer went 7.2 shutout innings and was followed by Shane Greene and Joe Kelly to finish out the sweep.

Núñez is 0-1 with an 8.22 ERA in six games (one start) for the Dodgers. He has additionally pitched for the Drillers and OKC, going a combined 5-0 with a 2.29 ERA.

Jackson made history in MLB debut

Jackson became the first player in the Modern Era with at least five strikeouts, four walks and no runs allowed during a relief appearance for his MLB debut.
