Dodgers Rookie Miguel Vargas Excited For Return To Oracle Park

Prior to Los Angeles Dodgers rookie Miguel Vargas cementing himself in the lineup as the starting second base, he joined the club last year for 18 games.

Vargas made his MLB debut last August but only played in two games before getting optioned back to Triple-A Oklahoma City. He returned once active rosters expanded for the final month of the 2022 regular season.

Vargas made an instant impact against the San Francisco Giants, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and a stolen base in a 3-0 win at Oracle Park.

With the Dodgers on the verge of returning to the Oracle Park, Vargas shared how excited he is for that series and the fond memories from his debut, via SportsNet LA:

“I love that place. I got good memories there with my family. I just want to get back there and feel that feeling of that day.”

Vargas only had eight hits in 47 at-bats last season. He struck out 13 times and only managed to draw two walks.

This season has been markedly different, as Vargas entered play Sunday leading the Majors with 11 walks and a .577 on-base percentage.

The improved plate discipline has been attributed to the time Vargas spent playing in Cactus League games without being cleared to swing a bat because of a hairline fracture in his right pinky. Despite not swinging, Vargas drew one walk in each of his first four games.

Miguel Vargas overcame thumb injury

The 23-year-old recently missed two games because of swelling and mild inflammation in his right thumb that was a result of getting hit by a pitch.

Vargas is hitless through his first two games but has two walks during that span.
