Just as the Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Dodgers were set to begin play Tuesday night at Coors Field, a rain cell moved in and delayed first pitch. Time Warner Cable SportsNet LA broadcaster Joe Davis expressed surprised over the sudden downpour as the skies were clear in Denver.

After a delay that lasted more than two and a half hours, the game was postponed and scheduled for a split doubleheader on Wednesday. The Dodgers and Rockies will first play Wednesday’s previously scheduled 12:10 p.m. PT game, then play the second of the twinbill at 5:10 p.m. PT.

This marks the second time in as many seasons a game betweeen the Dodgers and Rockies has been rained out at Coors Field. The lost game last May was made up as part of a doubleheader when the Dodgers returned to Denver that June.

Tuesday’s rainout prevented Rich Hill from making just his second start for the Dodgers since he was acquired in a five-player trade with the Oakland Athletics. Hill tossed six shutout innings with three strikeouts against the San Francisco Giants in his Dodgers debut.

Los Angeles was set to face left-hander Tyler Anderson for a second time this season. In the first start, which was also at Coors Field, Anderson allowed two runs on six hits, including one home run, over seven innings pitched to earn a win.

Corey Seager wasn’t in the lineup due to a planned night off. Though, it served a duel purpose as Seager was hit by a pitch on his left wrist during the seventh inning of Monday’s game. He was sent for X-rays, which came back negative.

It marked the second time this month Seager was struck on the wrist, with the first instance involving his throwing hand.
