Dodgers Recall Adam Liberatore, Pat Venditte; Brock Stewart Optioned To Triple-A Oklahoma City, Dennis Santana Placed On Disabled List

Prior to Friday’s series opener against the Atlanta Braves, the Los Angeles Dodgers recalled Adam Libeartore and Pat Venditte, optioned Brock Stewart and placed Dennis Santana on the 10-day disabled list due to a right rotator cuff strain, retroactive to June 5.

The switch-pitching Venditte has been back and forth between Oklahoma City and Los Angeles a few times already this season. He has appeared in four games at the big league level, giving up five hits and three runs in 3.2 innings (7.36 ERA) while striking out four without allowing a walk.

Meanwhile, Venditte has been lights out for Oklahoma City so far this season. In 22 games, he has posted a 1.50 ERA and 0.83 WHIP while striking out 28 compared to eight walks in 24 innings of work.

With Santana being scratched from his start and Caleb Ferguson only lasting 1.2 innings the night before, the Dodgers bullpen has been especially taxed in the past couple days, which Venditte should help aid this weekend against Atlanta.

So too should Liberatore, who has gone 1-1 with a 3.38 ERA, 2.61 FIP and 1.25 WHIP in 12 games for the Dodgers. Like Venditte, Liberatore has fared well with Oklahoma City, pitching to a 1.42 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in 12 games.

Stewart made three appearances in the Dodgers recent road trip and did not fare well as he gave up runs in all of them. Overall, he tossed four innings, allowed six hits and six runs (four earned). He gave up a three-run home run in Thursday’s win while recording just one out.

Stewart has been back and forth between the big leagues and Oklahoma City for much of the season. It will be interesting to see if that continues to be the case despite his ineffectiveness. He currently has a 5.60 ERA in 17.2 innings at the Major League level.

Santana becomes the latest Dodgers starter to land on the DL, though is the first prospect to suffer that fate. He allowed five runs on six hits across 3.2 innings pitched in his MLB debut, appearing out of the bullpen against the Colorado Rockies. Santana was credited with the win.
