The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled Bobby Miller and optioned Justin Wrobleski to Triple-A Oklahoma City ahead of Saturday’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Wrobleski heads back to the Minors one day after joining the Dodgers roster to make a spot start at Busch Stadium. That initially was billed as using the opportunity to provide Tyler Glasnow — and the entire rotation — with an extra day of rest as the Dodgers are playing 13 games in a row without an off day.

However, Glasnow wound up being the corresponding roster move for Wrobleski to join the team as he went on the 15-day injured list because of right elbow tendinitis.

The start was Wrobleski’s fifth of the season for L.A., and despite allowing three home runs over five innings, the Dodgers rookie earned his first career win.

The long ball has been a trouble spot for the left-hander, as he’s given up seven in just 25 innings pitched. Wrobleski nevertheless could receive more opportunities with the Dodgers to finish out the regular season due to River Ryan needing Tommy John surgery.

Wrobleski is 1-1 with a 4.68 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in his five starts.

With the Oklahoma City Baseball Club, he’s gone 0-2 with a 5.23 ERA and 1.65 WHIP. Wrobleski began the season with Double-A Tulsa and was largely dominant through 13 starts before earning a promotion to join the Dodgers’ top Minor League affiliate.

Bobby Miller returns

Although Wrobleski initially took Glasnow’s spot on the Dodgers’ active roster, it’s Miller who starts in his place. The 25-year-old is back up with the team for the first time since being demoted to Triple-A on July 10.

That came after Miller allowed a career-worst nine runs to the Philadelphia Phillies. The outing summarized what’s been an underwhelming 2024 season for Miller.

He went 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in three starts before landing on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation in the middle of April.

Miller missed over two months because of the injury and continued to struggle in four starts upon returning, going 0-1 with a 9.87 ERA and allowing opponents to bat .338/.434/.620 during that span.

Miller worked with Dodgers pitching coaches at Camelback Ranch before reporting to Oklahoma City when he was optioned. He pitched five scoreless innings on July 20 but regressed in two ensuring starts for OKC.

There also was a minor adductor injury that forced Miller to be skipped one time through the rotation in early August. Miller joins the Dodgers after last having pitched on Aug. 9. He was scratched from a scheduled start this past Thursday as the Dodgers sensed a potential need against the Cardinals.
