Los Angeles Dodgers pitching prospect Ryan Pepiot has hired the Boras Corporation to represent him. The right-hander joins Cody Bellinger and Julio Urias as prominent players in the organization who are clients of Scott Boras.

Pepiot is the Dodgers’ No. 2 ranked prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, and could make his big league debut at some point during the 2022 season. The 24-year-old continued his ascension to the top of rankings lists this year as he went 3-4 with a 2.87 ERA in 15 games (13 starts) for Double-A Tulsa.

Pepiot enjoyed his best performance in a 3-0 win over the Arkansas Travelers on the Fourth of July as he retired the first 21 batters faced. He ultimately lost his perfect game bid in the top of the eighth when he walked the leadoff batter.

Pepiot was removed by Drillers manager Scott Hennessey after throwing a career-high 77 pitches but did not allow a hit in the outing and struck out 11 batters.

“Ryan had a really special night (on July 4),” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said of the club potentially calling up Pepiot at the time. “I think the organization, Henny, Borkowski did a great job managing him. Letting him get through seven, I thought it was great and fantastic.

“What a special night. Special young man. I don’t think it was in the plans as we started this season, but things obviously in a baseball season change so we’ll continue to evaluate. Ryan’s a big part of what we’re doing now and going forward.”

Although Pepiot did not receive a call-up to the Majors this past season, he wound up earning a promotion to the Dodgers’ top Minor League affiliate. That came with a bit of a learning curve as Pepiot went 2-5 with a 7.13 ERA and 1.80 WHIP in 11 appearances (nine starts) for Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Pepiot drew interest at MLB trade deadline

Pepiot’s rise and stature as an elite pitching prospect did not go unnoticed as he was among those within the Dodgers organization to draw interest at the trade deadline.

He reportedly was sought by the Washington Nationals in the blockbuster trade involving Max Scherzer and Trea Turner. Of course, L.A. ultimately parted with Josiah Gray and Keibert Ruiz as the headliners.
