Los Angeles Dodgers part-owner Magic Johnson kicked off the holiday season by partnering with Feed the Children and General Motors to give back in his home state of Michigan.

Johnson went to Second Ebenezer Baptist Church in Detroit to give out supplies to more than 800 families to help make their Thanksgiving and holiday season better. Each family was given fresh food, canned goods, water, coats, toys, books and more by Johnson and the volunteers.

The NBA Hall of Famer was born in Lansing, which is roughly an hour and a half from Detroit, and his father Earvin Sr. worked for GM as an assembly worker. Feed the Children is a non-profit organization working to make sure children have food to eat by distributing donations of food and other items.

What was so great is everyone received turkey, ham, tuna, canned goods, water, coats, toys & books for the kids, & so much more. Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped to make sure all of the families have an incredible Thanksgiving & holiday season! @Fritolay pic.twitter.com/lj6mSgU13s

Last year, Johnson hosted a holiday event at Crete Academy to provide for underserved students. The Dodgers, L.A. Lakers and L.A. Rams assisted him in putting together a day of carnival games, gifts and other entertainment at the local school.

More than 400 kids received a brand new bike, which were provided by Target, a voucher for a helmet from a local shop, and toys donated by Mattel. He was also at the forefront of an event to distribute food, books, toys and personal care items to 800 families, and he has a long history of giving back to those in need.

Dodgers host Veterans Day batting practice event

The Dodgers hosted approximately 500 active-duty service members and veterans along with their families on Friday, November 11, at Dodger Stadium for a Veterans Day event.

The attendees participated in activities on the field, including batting practice and catch, photo opportunities with the 2020 World Series trophy and lunch. As part of the event, Austin Barnes and Max Muncy participated in a question and answer session hosted by Kirsten Watson.

“I said it a couple of times today, but the Dodgers, the players, the fans, the city, we are all one big family, and these are the guys that protect the family,” Muncy told DodgerBlue.com. “So I think it’s really cool that we give them the chance to do something special like this.”
