Dodgers & Padres Share MLB History With Losses To Cubs

The Chicago Cubs have been one of the most impressive teams at the start of the 2025 season, jumping out to a 12-8 record and first-place showing in the National League Central.

The Cubs are in the middle of a six-game road trip, which began with a series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Chicago took two of three to hand L.A. their first losses at Dodger Stadium after beginning the season with a home record of 7-0.

The Cubs have gone on to split the first two games of their series with the San Diego Padres at Petco Park. San Diego had won their first 11 games at home prior to falling 2-1 to Chicago on Tuesday.

According to OptaSTATS, the Cubs are the first team in MLB history to end separate season-opening home winning streaks of at least seven games.

The Cubs began the 2025 season with a pair of losses to the Dodgers in the Tokyo Series but have since won 12 of their last 18 games.

Chicago has been led by offseason acquisitions Kyle Tucker and Carson Kelly in the early going, while also receiving stellar pitching from Shota Imanaga and Matthew Boyd.

The Cubs are looking to get back to the postseason for the first time since 2020, when they were swept by the Miami Marlins in the NL Wild Card Series.

Cubs facing Dodgers for third time

Having already played two series this year, the Dodgers and Cubs will meet for the final time in the regular season next week at Wrigley Field.

“To know we’re going to be done with these guys in a couple weeks for the whole season, is unique,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said last week. “I try not to overthink the logic behind scheduling, because obviously it’s a tough job, but it is interesting how certain teams we’re going to be done with and certain teams we don’t see for quite some time.”

Given the trajectory of both teams, it would not be surprising if Cubs and Dodgers face each other again in the postseason.
