Emmet Sheehan Perfect In Return Start With Triple-A Oklahoma City

Emmet Sheehan was dominant in his first start with Triple-A Oklahoma City since being optioned by the Los Angeles Dodgers last week.

The 25-year-old collected 13 strikeouts over six perfect innings against the Sacramento River Cats (San Francisco Giants affiliate) in the Comets’ 16-1 win on Wednesday. Sheehan threw just 73 pitches and capped off his outing by striking out the final five batters faced.

It seemingly was an extension of Sheehan impressing in his 2025 debut for the Dodgers on June 18. He held the San Diego Padres to just one run and recorded six strikeouts without issuing a walk in four innings of work.

Sheehan was able to return to the Majors just 13 months after undergoing a hybrid Tommy John and internal brace procedure on his right elbow. Prior to rejoining L.A., he completed a brief Minor League rehab assignment that consisted of four starts between the Arizona Complex League Dodgers and Comets.

While Sheehan turned in an efficient outing, the Dodgers optioned him to Oklahoma City the following day as the corresponding move to recalling Jack Little.

Given the shorthanded nature of their starting rotation, the Dodgers sending Sheehan down the Minors was somewhat of a curious decision. However, they needed the roster spot and felt it was wiser to keep the fully stretched out Justin Wrobleski with the big league club for the time being.

Wrobleski pitched the bulk innings in the Dodgers’ 9-7 win over the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday and was credited with his third win of the season.

When will Emmet Sheehan return to Dodgers?

Sheehan is eligible to rejoin the Dodgers on July 4, but can be called up sooner if replacing an injured pitcher.

The Dodgers play nine consecutive games to begin the month of July and will need to insert a starter at some point, so Sheehan certainly figures to get recalled during that span.
