Dodgers Option Alex Verdugo To Oklahoma City, Activate Yasiel Puig Off Disabled List

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced ahead of Wednesday’s series finale with the Arizona Diamondbacks that they have activated right fielder Yasiel Puig from the 10-day disabled list and optioned Alex Verdugo to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Also on Wednesday, the Dodgers recalled Scott Alexander and Brock Stewart, optioned Yimi Garcia to OKC, and placed Tony Cingrani on the 10-day disabled list due to left shoulder inflammation.

Puig is in right field and batting seventh for the Dodgers against left-hander Patrick Corbin. He had been out since April 29 with a couple of injuries.

Puig suffered both in a game at AT&T Park against the San Francisco Giants, hurting his hip while running into a wall to make a catch, then fouling a ball off his foot in the next inning, resulting in a contusion.

Puig made one rehab appearance Tuesday night with High-A Rancho Cucamonga, playing seven innings in the field and going 0-for-4 at the plate. He grounded out twice, struck out and lined out, but most importantly, proved that he was healthy enough to be activated.

The 2018 season has not gotten off to a good start for Puig as he is hitting just .193/.250/.250 with five doubles and seven RBI in 24 games. He has had some bad luck though, often making hard contact but right at fielders.

Verdugo shined in his brief time with the Dodgers, batting .265/.306/.382 with four doubles and one RBI in nine games, all of which were starts. Verdugo at one point had a modest four-game hitting streak.
