Dodgers Opening Day Roster: Kyle Hurt Placed On 15-Day Injured List

Kyle Hurt was placed on the 15-day injured list due as part of the Los Angeles Dodgers Opening Day roster for the Tokyo Series being made official.

Hurt remains on the mend from Tommy John surgery he underwent last July. He’s among nine Dodgers pitchers who are starting the season on the injured list.

The group also includes Tony Gonsolin (15-day, back tightness), Brusdar Graterol (60-day, right shoulder surgery), Michael Grove (60-day, right shoulder surgery), Edgardo Henriquez (15-day, left foot fracture), Clayton Kershaw (15-day, left toe surgery), Michael Kopech (15-day, right shoulder impingement), Evan Phillips (15-day, right rotator cuff strain) and Emmett Sheehan (15-day, right elbow surgery).

Hurt is expected to miss the 2025 season while recovering from his right elbow surgery. He had been shut down from throwing upon leaving a relief appearance for Triple-A Oklahoma City because of elbow soreness.

“Very tough. Kyle’s a really good kid. Worked hard once he got here with us to kind of be a guy, and then now to learn he’s going to go under the knife at the end of the month, it’s disappointing,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said at the time.

“I feel for him, It’s a long road back, but I still believe that certainly with that surgery, the prognosis is really good.”

Hurt appeared in three games (one start) across two separate stints with the Dodgers last season, going 0-1 with a 1.35 ERA and 1.35 WHIP in 6.2 innings pitched.

The right-hander was on the Dodgers travel roster for the Seoul Series and made one appearance in South Korea before being optioned prior to the Dodger Stadium opener.

Hurt was then placed on the 15-day IL with right shoulder inflammation on April 20. The Dodgers transferred him to the 60-day IL one week later.

The 26-year-old was activated and optioned on June 21 but only pitched in five more games before suffering the right elbow injury.

Hurt pitched in 13 games (two starts) for Oklahoma City, posting a 3.07 ERA and 1.43 WHIP with 22 strikeouts against 12 walks over 14.2 innings.

Kyle Hurt’s long-term outlook with Dodgers

Although the Dodgers looked to leverage Hurt’s potential as a reliever last year, they have indicated they still view him as a starting pitching prospect.
