Yasiel Puig may be at somewhat of a crossroads in his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The polarizing outfielder wishes to regain his standing as an everyday right fielder, whether it be with the Dodgers or another team.

For a second straight year, Puig reported to Spring Training after spending the offseason losing weight, at the team’s instruction. While Puig is working to once again establish himself in the Dodgers outfield, he’s also at the center of an off-the-field matter.

Puig’s house was burglarized during the week of Feb. 27, with the thieves coming away with hundreds of thousands of dollars in jewelry, via James Queally of the L.A. Times:

At least $170,000 worth of jewelry and other items were swiped from the Sherman Oaks home of Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig last week, police officials said Tuesday.

Fortunately for Puig and his family, no one was home at the time of the break in. He purchased the home for $1.8 million in 2015.

Puig declined to comment on the matter other than noting the grand scheme of things and that only monetary items were lost. The Los Angeles Police Department has taken control of the case and is conducting an official investigation.

Entering his fifth season, Puig is focused on showing signs of maturity and growth as he hopes trying to avoid the bad habits that led to his demotion last season.

Thus far, the 26-year-old is 4-for-16 with one home run, two doubles and two runs scored in six Cactus League games.
