Dodgers News: World Series Run Ties For Top Moment At 13th Annual L.A. Sports Awards

The 13th Annual L.A. Sports Awards took place Tuesday night at The Beverly Hilton, and the Los Angeles Dodgers brought home some hardware as they shared top billing at the event. Their run to the 2017 World Series tied for the top moment in the city of Los Angeles, along with L.A. winning the right to host the 2028 Olympic Games.

The Dodgers reached the World Series for the first time since 1988. Their playoff march began with a sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks in the National League Division Series.

Next was eliminating the defending champion Chicago Cubs in five games in the NL Championship Series. The clinching game at Wrigley Field was punctuated by Kiké Hernandez’s historic three-home run night.

While the World Series did not go as planned, as the Dodgers were defeated by the Houston Astros in an all-time classic seven-game series, it does not take away from all they accomplished throughout the year.

They won an MLB-best 104 games and took home an unprecedented fifth consecutive NL West division title. ‘Best Moment’ wasn’t the only award the Dodgers won Tuesday night, as Justin Turner’s walk-off home run in Game 2 of the NLCS was ranked the fourth-best overall moment.

Additionally, Cody Bellinger was honored as the 2017 Sportsman of the Year. Bellinger was also named the unanimous NL Rookie of the Year, as he hit .267/.352/.581 with an NL rookie-record 39 home runs to go along with 97 RBIs and 87 runs scored.

The Dodgers are in a prime position to receive plenty of honors again in 2018, as they return most of their core nucleus from a season ago. They will look to win their sixth straight NL West division title and bring the first World Series championship back to the city of Los Angeles for the first time in 30 years.
