Dodgers News: Walker Buehler Felt Start Against Astros Was ‘Sporadic’

The Los Angeles Dodgers were able to salvage their series against the Houston Astros on Sunday afternoon by coming away with a 3-2 victory to avoid being swept at home by the defending World Series champions.

Walker Buehler got the start on the mound for the Dodgers, and things did not begin on a positive note for him. Buehler’s first pitch he threw was hit over the center field fence by Astros leadoff man George Springer, giving Houston an early lead.

He settled in from there though, and wound up earning his fifth victory of the season by allowing just four hits and two runs in 5.1 innings while tying a career high with eight strikeouts against just two walks.

Buehler also hit two batters though on the day, so he felt he was a bit erratic although he was happy to come away with the win, via Ken Gurnick of MLB.com:

“It was kind of sporadic, a lot of big misfires we can work on, but made some big pitches when I needed to and we got out of there with the win,” said Buehler. “It’s a big series and they played well the last two days. It has to be a big series, that’s the nature of the beast. They were world champions last year and we came in second. Especially here, we want to play well and we didn’t play the way we wanted the past two days, so to get a win is big.”

After a couple rough outings when he first came back from his rib microfracture, Buehler seems to be returning to his pre-injury form, which is definitely a positive sign for the Dodgers as they head into the homestretch of the season.

On the year he’s now 5-4 with a 3.63 ERA and 1.06 WHIP.
