Shohei Ohtani enjoyed a record-breaking first season with the Los Angeles Dodgers and was properly recognized by unanimously winning the 2024 National League MVP Award.
Ohtani led all NL players in home runs (54), RBI (130) and on-base plus slugging percentage (1.036). He also finished with a career-best 59 stolen bases en route to becoming the first player in MLB history to have a 50-50 season.
While there was a narrative that New York Mets All-Star Francisco Lindor would challenge Ohtani for NL MVP, the two-way player ended up receiving all 30 first-place votes to earn the honor.

Lindor received 23 second-place votes and seven for third place. He finished second in NL MVP voting with 263 overall points, which was ahead of the Arizona Diamondbacks’ Ketel Marte’s 229 points.
Ohtani winning the NL MVP amounted to setting multiple records and making MLB history. He joined Frank Robinson as the only two players to win an MVP Award in both the NL and American League.
Ohtani also became the first player in Dodgers history to unanimously win an MVP Award. Overall, the Dodgers have 13 MVP winners in franchise history.
Ohtani is also just the 12th player in MLB history to win the MVP Award at least three times. Prior to Ohtani, no full-time designated hitter had ever won MVP in either league.

In addition to NL MVP, Ohtani was named the NL Hank Aaron Award winner, the Edgar Martinez Outstanding Designated Hitter, the NL Outstanding Player as part of the Players Choice Awards and Sporting News’ MLB Player of the Year.
Ohtani also won his third Silver Slugger Award while being selected to the All-MLB Team.
