Dodgers News: Tyler Glasnow Expected To Make Next Scheduled Start

Tyler Glasnow completed four scoreless innings in his start against the Texas Rangers on Sunday before being removed due to lower leg cramps.

The right-hander was initially checked on by Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and head athletic trainer Thomas Albert in the fourth inning, but stayed in the game.

After throwing a fastball to begin the fifth, Austin Barnes, Roberts, Albert and Dodgers pitching coach Mark Prior went out to the mound for another visit. That instance ended with Glasnow noticeably limping off the field.

Despite his outing ending earlier than anticipated, Roberts said Glasnow should be able to make his next start against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday, via Jack Harris of the L.A. Times:

“We expect him to make his next start on Sunday at home,” manager Dave Roberts said. “So hopefully this is a one-time occurrence.”

Given that they are already somewhat short on starting pitching, the Dodgers are fortunate Glasnow appears to have avoided a serious injury.

The 31-year-old spent the offseason working on mechanical adjustments to maintain better health after having his 2024 season end early because of right elbow tendinitis.

Glasnow is off to a solid start this season as he owns a 1-0 record with a 3.71 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 12.2 strikeouts per nine in 17 innings pitched across four games. Though, two of those outings have ended prematurely.

Glasnow has allowed two runs or fewer in three of his four starts, with the only exception being a rough outing against the Philadelphia Phillies on April 6 that can be attributed to rainy weather.

Tyler Glasnow unsure of cause for sporadic cramping

Glasnow has dealt with occasional cramping throughout his career, but isn’t sure why the issues continue to pop up from time to time.

Glasnow noted that he previously experienced cramping during a start against the Toronto Blue Jays last season.
