Trea Turner went 50% on his stolen base attempts in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ win over the New York Mets on Thursday, and in both instances made contact with Jonathan Villar.

Turner’s first attempt came on a delayed steal in the third inning, when he initially was safe. However, the way Villar was blocking the base with his knee caused Turner to lose his balance and come off the bag.

He was then successful after hitting an RBI single in the fifth inning, but jammed his left hand/fingers against Villar’s knee as the ball went into center field. Turner called for time and appeared to exchange words with the Mets’ shortstop over his defensive tactics.

“We just had a conversation about it, and we’re all good. It’s baseball, we’re out there competing,” Turner said after the game. “I just wanted to make sure everybody is good and safe. I think we’re on the same page now, so we’re good.”

Turner finished the night with a game-high two hits, as the Dodgers relied on manufacturing runs. “That’s important,” he said.

“When the ball is not leaving the yard, you have to play defense, you have pitch and you have to get timely hitting. I felt like we did that tonight. Our pitching has been really, really good, and I felt like we played good defense, and we got those timely hits. Tough guy on the mound, we battled and came out on top.”

Turner impressed by Dodgers bullpen

En route to extending their winning streak to seven games, the Dodgers have continued to heavily lean on their bullpen. Mitch White took on that burden Wednesday, which was the first of back-to-back bullpen games.

“So consistent. Even when they get in a little bit of trouble, they really manage the damage,” Turner said of the Dodgers’ relief corps.

“That gives the offense wiggle room and time to put stuff together on our end. They’ve just been so consistent, so good for us, kept us in games, and I think why we’re playing really good baseball is because a lot of those guys.”
