Dodgers News: Stan Kasten Hopeful Fans Can Attend 2021 Opening Day At Dodger Stadium

After spending the entire 2020 season playing home games in an empty Dodger Stadium, the Los Angeles Dodgers are hopeful to welcome a limited number of fans this year.

Dodgers president and CEO Stan Kasten outlined his goal in a video sent to season ticket holders. “I hope, by Opening Day we are finally going to have some fans in the park,” Kasten said.

“I don’t think it will be a full stadium just yet. But I do believe some time during this season, the way things are looking, we will have a full stadium again.”

The Dodgers began selling Spring Training tickets on Saturday morning. Camelback Ranch is permitting a maximum capacity of 2,400 socially-distanced fans to attend each game, with tickets sold on a single-game basis and in pods of two, four and six.

For now the plan is to keep attendance at 18% of the stadium’s full capacity throughout Spring Training.

“We don’t know yet how many we are going to have here in California, but we are working with local health officials, we’re working with the governor’s office,” Kasten said of fans attending games at Dodger Stadium during the 2021 season.

Opening Day for all teams is April 1, when the Dodgers will be on the road to face the Colorado Rockies. Opening Day at Dodger Stadium isn’t until April 9, for the start of a three-game series with the Washington Nationals.

Turner hopes fans can experience Dodger Stadium

While the Dodgers went the entire 2020 season without playing in front of fans, that changed when they entered a bubble of sorts at Globe Life Field for the National League Championship Series and World Series.

Several players spoke at the time about the jolt of energy they felt from seeing fans in the stands and hearing them cheer throughout the course of a game. Justin Turner is not only hoping that will be the case this season, but also for fans to visit a renovated Dodger Stadium.

“I know our ownership group has put a lot of work into our stadium in upgrading it, and no one has been able to experience that yet,” Turner said Friday. “I’m really excited for our fans to hopefully get into Dodger Stadium and experience the new upgrades. The stadium is unbelievable. They did a great job.”
