Dodgers News: Ross Stripling To Start Series Finale Against Giants

Injuries claimed another pair of Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitchers on Tuesday with Brett Anderson (blister, left index finger) and Scott Kazmir (neck irritation) landing on the 15-day disabled list.

Anderson’s stint is retroactive to Aug. 21. Meanwhile, Kazmir became the 27th different Dodgers player put on the DL this season, which ties the Major League record set by the Boston Red Sox in 2012.

Anderson’s injury stripped the Dodgers of their probable starter for Thursday’s series finale against the San Francisco Giants. As was widely expected to be the case if Anderson was unavailable, manager Dave Roberts announced Ross Stripling will fill the void.

Stripling joined the Dodgers on Monday in Cincinnati and traveled with the club to Los Angeles. He last pitched Aug. 18, throwing five innings at Citizens Bank Park and allowing three runs (two earned).

Stripling’s start against the Giants will be the second of his young career. The right-hander infamously made Major League debut on April 8 at AT&T Park and was removed with one out in the eighth inning despite having a no-hitter intact.

Considering he’s not far removed from Tommy John surgery, the Dodgers have had an innings limit in place since naming Stripling their fifth starter days prior to the 2016 season beginning.

Stripling was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Aug. 19, but was permitted to be recalled within the standard 10-day waiting period by virtue of replacing an injured player on the active roster.

The 26-year-old is 3-4 with a 4.04 ERA, 3.77 FIP and 1.25 WHIP in 15 games (11 starts) for the Dodgers this season.
