Dodgers News: Ross Stripling To Come Off Disabled List Once Eligible, Take Alex Wood’s Spot In Starting Rotation

With a majority of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ starting rotation dealing with injuries for a better part of the first half of the season, two pitchers who picked up the slack were Ross Stripling and Alex Wood.

The Dodgers’ rotation is relatively healthy now, although the two that have been dealing with injuries in recent weeks ironically are Stripling and Wood.

Stripling was placed on the 10-day disabled list around a week ago with a toe injury, which played a factor in his recent struggles. Wood then hit the DL on Saturday after leaving his start against the Houston Astros the night prior due to hamstring cramps.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts deemed Wood’s removal precautionary. He was officially diagnosed with left adductor tendinitis.

Wood’s next start would have come Thursday against the Colorado Rockies. That is the first day Stripling is eligible to be activated, and it appears he will come off the disabled list to make the start, via Ken Gurnick of MLB.com:

Manager Dave Roberts said Wood’s spot in the rotation would be filled on the next cycle by Ross Stripling, who threw a two-inning simulated game on Saturday and is eligible to come off the disabled list on Thursday.

Given their current excess of starting pitching, the Dodgers have the luxury of utilizing the 10-day disabled list to give banged-up starters a bit of a rest, which they weren’t able to do earlier in the season.

Hyun-Jin Ryu is also on his way to being back as he is set for a second rehab start this upcoming week.

So eventually, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts will have to make some tough decisions in regards to who his five-man rotation will be barring any other significant injuries, which isn’t a bad problem to have.
