Dodgers News: Mookie Betts Visited Driveline Facility For 2nd Consecutive Offseason

Mookie Betts experienced a power surge for the Los Angeles Dodgers last season as he led the team in home runs (39), RBI (107), slugging percentage (.579) and on-base plus slugging (.987) while finishing second to Freddie Freeman with 40 doubles.

Betts has always put up solid power numbers in his career but he took it up another notch in 2023, which can partly be attributed to his visit to Driveline Baseball.

The Dodgers have an excellent relationship with the Washington-based training facility as Betts, Gavin Lux, Max Muncy, Clayton Kershaw and Chris Taylor are among the players who worked out there in recent years.

Betts once again paid a visit to Driveline during the offseason in an effort to maintain the muscle he added before the 2023 season. “Similar process, so we’ll see if it yields similar results. I went back up there, so we’ll see how it goes,” Betts said.

“Just keep doing the same thing I’ve been doing. It did well last year, obviously. Not at the right time, but it did do well last year.”

Betts hit an overall .307/.408/.579 with 80 extra-base hits, 14 stolen bases and 96 walks over 152 games last season that resulted in a second-place finish in National League MVP voting.

However, Betts struggled in the Dodgers’ NL Division Series loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks as went hitless in 11 at-bats. The seven-time All-Star recently said he wants to bounce back and prove to everyone that he can be a reliable bat when it matters most.

Mookie Betts looking to ‘get back to being athletic’

With Betts expected to be the Dodgers’ starting second baseman this year, he noted that it resulted in some changes to his offseason training.

Betts is trying to maintain his athleticism to play the infield, but it remains to be seen how he will go about preparing for the season with the position change.
