Dodgers News: Mookie Betts Enjoyed Offseason Trip To Japan

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ upcoming trip to Japan for the Tokyo Series will represent Mookie Betts’ second time in the country since the team won the 2024 World Series.

During the offseason, Betts hosted a baseball clinic for students at Matsusen Elementary School in Ota City, Tokyo, Japan. The surprise visit was part of MLB’s “Play Ball” initiative, which aims to promote baseball among young players.

“It was awesome. It was really neat to see the culture, taste all the food and really experience what it’s like,” Betts said of his time in Japan.

“I wasn’t Shohei (Ohtani) by any means, but to experience kind of what it’s like to walk around the streets and everyone knows you. I can only imagine being those guys. It was just an amazing experience.”

Betts’ baseball clinic was attended by 60 students who were eager to learn the fundamentals of the sport. The eight-time All-Star threw batting practice to players, showcased his skills and demonstrated various techniques throughout the day.

Betts encouraged the students to ask any questions they had and he was more than happy to share his insights about the game.

The three-time World Series champion’s visit not only provided the students with valuable lessons on the field but also an experience they will never forget.

While Betts and the Dodgers figured to be celebrated upon landing in Japan, his popularity will pale in comparison to that of Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Roki Sasaki.

On the Chicago Cubs roster are fellow Japanese natives Seiya Suzuki and Shota Imanaga.

Dodgers fan club membership available to Japan residents

The Dodgers launched a fan club that is only available to residents of Japan, which comes with special perks such as limited edition merchandise and a chance to win tickets to the Tokyo Series.

The official Dodgers fan club consists of four different membership options that vary in price and benefits. The MVP tier, which costs 75,000 yen (roughly $500 USD) and includes several premium items such as an Ohtani bobblehead, reportedly sold out in three minutes.
