The Los Angeles Dodgers were defeated by the Boston Red Sox in five games in the 2018 World Series, but their one win was definitely a memorable one.

Game 3 of the series at Dodger Stadium lasted 18 innings and more than seven hours. It finally ended when Max Muncy launched a walk-off home run to left-center field off Red Sox relief pitcher Nathan Eovaldi.

The walk-off home run was only the second in Dodgers history in the World Series, with the other of course being Kirk Gibson’s in Game 1 in 1988.

While the Dodgers may not have won the series, Muncy’s home run was obviously a memorable moment that will be remembered in the city of Los Angeles for a very long time. It was recently nominated by the Los Angeles Sports Council’s Media Panel for ‘Best Moment’ at the annual L.A. Sports Awards.

The panel recently announced the winners, and Muncy’s home run came in second to the Los Angeles Rams’ Monday Night Football thriller against the Kansas City Chiefs:

Previously, the Dodgers’ run to the 2017 World Series tied for the best moment of the year, and Cody Bellinger was voted Sportsman of the Year after a remarkable rookie season.

Opening Day is on Thursday, so Muncy and the Dodgers will begin their journey to return to and win the World Series, hopefully creating more great moments worthy of winning awards next year.
