Dodgers News: Max Muncy Feels Swing Is ‘Pretty Close’

The Los Angeles Dodgers activated Max Muncy from the 10-day injured list on Monday after he missed more than three weeks because of a Grade 1 right oblique strain.

It was Muncy’s second IL stint of 2025, as he dealt with bone bruise in his left knee that kept him sidelined for a month. The third baseman began a rehab assignment last Thursday, playing three games with the Triple-A Oklahoma City Comets prior to rejoining the Dodgers.

Muncy went 2-for-7 with two walks in those three contests. Muncy felt his time with the Comets was a success and felt prepared to join the Dodgers lineup.

“Swung and missed, made contact, check swung, ran the bases, had some plays on defense,” Muncy said.

“For me, I checked all the boxes and I think it was kind of one of those rare rehab assignments where you’re not entirely worried about results. You’re more worried about how your body feels coming out of it. So for me, I came out great. We’re here, still coughing, but I’ll probably be coughing for another month. That’s how my body handles these things.”

Muncy was able to test his right oblique during the short oeverehab assignment and answered three important concerns he had. He was able to swing at full strength, swing and miss, and check swing without issue.

“I accomplished all of those, and felt like it was a big thing. It all felt good,” he said.

“There was no lingering side effects from any of it and next-day soreness wasn’t really there. So that’s a good thing.”

Despite missing around seven weeks combined between his two injuries, Muncy overall feels close to where he wants to be at the plate.

“I’ve been trying to do as much as I can, tracking as much as I can. I don’t feel like my timing is that far off,” he said. “It might be where I want it to be. It felt good in the rehab games.

“There were a couple outside factors, and like I said, just trying to get swings off was the most important thing to me. Not really worrying about results, but mechanically, when I take a look at my swings, they’re pretty close where I want to be.

“There’s one or two things that are easy fixes that wouldn’t take long at all.”

What does Max Muncy’s return mean for Dodgers?

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has been looking forward to getting Muncy back in the lineup because of his importance to their offense.

“Obviously, it’s a big boost,” Roberts said. “We’ve been waiting for this move for a long time. Not to add any pressure to Max, but just kind of having his presence in the lineup.

“Just taking a quality at-bat, obviously adds length to our lineup, another left-handed hitter who could just do some things, and provide some slug, some on-base, the ability to get a hit, and just again, lengthens our lineup. Really good add.”
