Max Muncy was named National League Player of the Week for April 17-23, becoming the first member of the Los Angeles Dodgers to earn the honor this season.

It is the first time Muncy has won the weekly award in his career, and he is the first Dodgers player to be recognized as NL Player of the Week since Freddie Freeman (September 5-11, 2022).

Muncy batted .389 (7-for-18) with five home runs, seven RBI, nine walks, one stolen base and five runs scored across seven games. The 32-year-old led the NL in home runs, on-base percentage (.593) and slugging percentage (1.222), and tied for first in walks while finishing second in total bases (22) during the period he received the honor.

Muncy had a particularly productive weekend against the Chicago Cubs as he recorded his 12th multi-home run game on Saturday, and followed with another homer in the series finale to help the Dodgers win three of four matchups at Wrigley Field.

Muncy reached base safely at least twice in five of the seven games he played during the week. He is in the midst of a resurgence, which he attributed to getting his mind right after reverting to the step-back move in the batter’s box once again.

Muncy is batting an overall .254/.411/.718 with an MLB-best 11 home runs and 21 RBI in 90 plate appearances (22 games). He has been on a home run tear as of late, slugging 10 over his last 13 games. Furthermore, Muncy’s 21 RBI rank third among NL hitters.

Max Muncy on paternity list

After a stellar week, Muncy was put on the paternity list and replaced by prospect Michael Busch on the Dodgers’ active roster.

Muncy joins Mookie Betts, Brusdar Graterol and Evan Phillips in going on the paternity list in the past week.
