Dodgers News: Max Muncy Doesn’t Make Excuses For Errors Vs. Brewers

The Los Angeles Dodgers failed to truly capitalize on their opportunities with the bases loaded, stranded nine men on the night and went 3-for-11 with runners in scoring position. So their three errors were all the more vital in a 4-2 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers.

The first miscue came in the second inning, when catcher’s interference allowed Ryan Braun to reach. It was the Brewers’ first baserunner, as Clayton Kershaw struck out the side in the first inning.

Following the error on Grandal, Tyler Saladino’s base hit put two on with nobody out. Braun later scored on an RBI groundout, cutting the Dodgers’ lead in half. Then in the sixth inning, Max Muncy had a chopper go under his glove and into left field, allowing the go-ahead run to score.

The play was relatively routine and one that Muncy has made on multiple occasions despite playing out of position.

His error led to another run as Keon Broxton promptly tripled because the inning was extended. Muncy didn’t shy away from the costly play and put blame on himself, as seen on SportsNet LA

“I was just trying to get the ball in the air. No excuses for that. I feel like I got there and just missed the ball.”

While it didn’t lead to a run, Muncy was charged for a second error when his throw to Cody Bellinger went into the stands back of first base. Muncy had thrown high on two prior occasions, which Bellinger was able to leap up for and corral.

Muncy explained what mistake he made on the three plays:

“All three of those throws that were high tonight were kind of the same exact play. They were balls that bounced off the plate high. I see out of the corner of my eye a guy running down the line and I know I’ve got to make a quick throw. Instead of just taking my time, I rushed myself and the throw was high.”

Further compounding the errors was that Muncy struck out twice and hitless in four at-bats. Batting cleanup, he stranded a team-high five baserunners.
