Max Muncy was among eight players inducted into the 2023 Baylor Athletics Hall of Fame. The rest of the class consists of Stan Curry, Denes Lukacs, Sandy Forsythe Massey, Pat Nunley, Ken Quesenberry, Tiffany Townsend and J.D. Walton. George Chandler was also be added to the Wall of Honor.

The Hall of Fame banquet was held Friday at the Cashion Building Banquet Room on the Baylor campus.

Muncy started 59 games at first base during his freshman season at Baylor and hit .300 with a school freshman-record 11 home runs and 53 RBIs. He earned Freshman All-America honors and was named to the Fort Worth Regional all-tournament team.

Then as a sophomore, Muncy batted .322 with 17 doubles, three triples, seven home runs and 56 RBI in 66 games. He was a two-time All-Big 12 Conference selection at Baylor and led the Bears to the 2012 conference title.

Muncy was selected in the fifth round of the 2012 MLB Draft by the Oakland Athletics. He made his MLB debut in 2015 and would play two seasons with the big league club before being designated for assignment at the start of 2017.

Muncy signed a Minor League contract with the Dodgers and has since revitalized his career. Muncy has hit 180 home runs with an .842 on-base plus slugging in parts of six seasons with the team, earning two All-Star selections and winning the World Series in 2020.

He will remain with the Dodgers going forward after signing a two-year, $24 million contract extension through 2025. Muncy’s deal includes a $10 million club option for the 2026 season.

Max Muncy explains signing contract extension with Dodgers

Muncy will earn $2 million less next season than what he was originally slated to receive had his 2024 club option been picked up. Of course, there is the added value of being under contract for 2025 as well.

Muncy explained that he signed a team-friendly contract with the Dodgers due to his desire of not wanting to play anywhere else
