Dodgers News: Logan Forsythe, Justin Turner Activated Off Disabled List; Kyle Farmer, Tim Locastro Optioned

As expected, the Los Angeles Dodgers activated Logan Forsythe and Justin Turner off the 10-day disabled list prior to facing the Miami Marlins in the opener of a six-game road trip. Kyle Farmer and Tim Locastro were optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City to create room on the roster.

Turner began the season on the DL after being hit by a pitch and sustaining a left wrist fracture late in Spring Training. A timetable for his recovery was not made public, though comments made by Turner and Dodgers general manager Farhan Zaidi suggested eight weeks was a reasonable projection.

Lo and behold, that is essentially the amount of time Turner was sidelined. He appeared in two games on a rehab assignment with High-A Rancho Cucamonga over the weekend, making one start each at third base and as the designated hitter.

Turner went a combined 0-for-6 with a walk in the two games, but hit the ball well and was encouraged by his time with the Quakes.

Similarly, Forsythe was also on a rehab assignment with Rancho Cucamonga, though appeared in three games. He made two starts at second base, with a DH game sandwiched between, going 1-for-10 with three strikeouts.

Forsythe was just 8-for-46 (.174 batting average) with a .224 on-base percentage and .283 slugging in 12 games before landing on the DL due to inflammation in his right shoulder. It’s believed shifting over to third base caused some of the shoulder trouble, which suggests Forsythe won’t see much more time at the position for the remainder of the season.

Injuries led to Farmer making the Dodgers’ Opening Day roster, in large part because of his versatility and ability to play third base. Farmer appeared in 20 games, with 19 (14 starts) coming at third base. He hit .230/.304/.279 with three doubles and six RBI.

Locastro returns to Oklahoma City less than two weeks after joining the Dodgers. He had two hits, including one double, and two walks and one hit by pitch in 14 plate appearances over eight games (three starts).

Locastro hit .342/.448/.507 with five doubles, two triples, one home run and six RBI in six games with OKC prior to getting recalled.
