The 2016 Winter Meetings came to a close Thursday morning with the 2016 Rule 5 Draft. While the Los Angeles Dodgers have a full 40-man roster that prevented them from taking players during the Major League portion, Los Angeles selected Minor League pitchers Kyle Grana from the St. Louis Cardinals and Edward Paredes from the Detroit Tigers.

The cost to select Minor League players during the Rule 5 Draft is $24,000, and there isn’t the same requirement that comes with Major League players selected, which requires them to spend the entire season on the active roster, or be offered back to their previous club for $25,000.

The right-handed Grana went 5-1 with a 3.12 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, 63 strikeouts and 27 walks in 53.2 innings across 43 games for High-A Palm Beach this season.

He owns a career 1.66 ERA and averaged 11.4 strikeouts per nine innings since joining the Cardinals organization in 2013.

Paredes spent the year with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Double-A affiliate. The 30-year-old went 2-2 with a 2.27 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, 53 strikeouts and 21 walks in 46 games.

Prior to this season the left-handed reliever had last been with an MLB affiliate in April 2013. From 2013-15, Paredes spent parts of three years pitching in the Independent and Dominican Winter Leagues.

The Dominican Republic native was in the Seattle Mariners farm system from 2006-11. Paredes signed a Minor League contract with the Tigers last month.

The Dodgers did not have any players taken in the Rule 5 Draft. They added Chase De Jong, Kyle Farmer and Jacob Rhame to their 40-man roster by the November deadline to protect against losing any of the three prospects.
