Dodgers News: Kyle Farmer Calls Being In Same Lineup As College Teammate Alex Wood For First Time ‘Pretty Cool’

One of the more surprising stories on the Los Angeles Dodgers this spring was the emergence of Kyle Farmer, who earned himself a spot on the Opening Day roster after batting .333 in Cactus League play.

Farmer is the team’s third-string catcher but has also earned some playing time at third base early in the season while Justin Turner is on the disabled list. The 27-year-old made his third start of the season at the position in Wednesday’s loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks.

This one was a little more special than all the other ones though, as for the first time in his career, Farmer was in the same lineup as his college teammate at Georgia University and good friend Alex Wood, who took the mound for the series finale.

After the game, Farmer commented on being back on the field at the same time with Wood, calling it a special moment although he wished the Dodgers could have gotten a win, via SportsNet LA:

“It was pretty cool. I played behind him a lot at Georgia, and just throwing the ball to him between innings was pretty cool seeing him out there. So that’s something I’ll remember, wish we got the win today, but hopefully next time.”

Farmer has gotten off to a bit of a slow start to the season, going 0-for-9 in his first four games.

Dodgers manager Dave Rboerts has been impressed with his play at third base though, saying that he has a chance at remaining on the roster even when Turner returns back from a fractured left wrist.

Regardless of what his future holds, Wednesday was a special moment for both Farmer and Wood, one that they won’t soon forget.
