Dodgers News: Justin Turner Encouraged By Batting Stance Changes

The Los Angeles Dodgers opened their homestand with a 5-1 win over the Detroit Tigers that snapped a two-game losing streak and also put them in a tie with the San Diego Padres for first place in the National League West.

The Dodgers wasted no time providing Tyler Anderson with plenty of support as they scored at least one run in each of the first four innings. Justin Turner helped jumpstart the offense by hitting a two-run homer in the bottom of the first.

It was Turner’s first home run of the season, as he had gone 70 plate appearances without one to start the year. “Felt good to put a good swing on the ball, see it go over the fence and give us a two-run lead early in the game,” Turner said after the game.

“Let Tyler go out and do this thing, and tack some runs on.”

Turner recently modified his batting stance to be more open and believes it is already paying off. “There’s a few other things in there, but opening up definitely has helped,” Turner said.

“I feel like I’m seeing the ball better, putting better swings on the ball and hitting the ball harder.”

Dodgers lineup gets job done

After Turner’s blast, Chris Taylor followed suit by hitting a line drive that carried to the cutout in the left field pavilion for a solo homer in the second inning. Taylor’s blast traveled an estimated 441 feet and was also his first home run of the year.

Mookie Betts’ leadoff single and Freeman’s walk set the table in the third inning, and Trea Turner collected an RBI on a sacrifice fly. Turner drew a walk in the eighth inning to extend his career-best on-base streak to 38 games.

The Dodgers then had some fortune on their side when Betts’ grounder got by Jeimer Candelario and Javier Báez for an infield single and error that allowed a run to score.
