Dodgers News: Julio Urías Tips Cap To Cubs Lineup

As the Los Angeles Dodgers were on the verge of going without a baserunner in a perfect game for Drew Smyly, the Chicago Cubs got to Julio Urías early and often on Friday afternoon.

Urías wasn’t helped by home-plate umpire Andy Fletcher missing a clear strike three on Seiya Suzuki, who wound up hitting a two-run double to give the Cubs a lead in the first inning.

Nico Hoerner added an RBI single in the second, and Cody Bellinger and Trey Mancini hit back-to-back solo home runs in the third inning. Urías was chased from the game with one out in the fourth inning.

Following his second consecutive loss to the Cubs, Urías gave credit to their lineup for executing a plan, via SportsNet LA

“I felt really good going into the outing. Obviously, it just didn’t work out. … It’s just one of those bad games. Obviously, we’ll look at the video and make those adjustments. You’ve got to give them credit. They took good at-bats, they hit the ball, they did everything they could. You have to give them a lot of credit for the way they attacked.”

When Urías faced the Cubs at Dodger Stadium last week, he held them to just two runs despite allowing eight hits over 5.2 innings of a tough-luck loss. He surrendered back-to-back homers in that outing as well, with Patrick Wisdom and Bellinger doing the damage.

“Overall, felt good,” Urías said through an interpreter after the home start. “Obviously I was battling with the counts of getting ahead, getting two strikes and not finishing off hitters. It was really frustrating, but overall, I felt good.”

Julio Urías streak snapped

The five runs Urías allowed at Wrigley Field were his most since last July 10, which also was in a start against the Cubs. Friday snapped a streak of Urías allowing two earned runs or fewer in 18 consecutive starts.
