Julio Urias extended his scoreless streak to 16 innings with six shutout frames for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Monday against Colorado Springs Sky Sox (Milwaukee Brewers’ affiliate).
The outing was the second consecutive in which Urias has completed six innings, which is a career high. He’s now done so just eight times in 66 games (60 starts) since making his professional debut in 2013.
Monday’s game wasn’t the no-hit work Urias put forth in his previous outing. The Sky Sox managed four hits and drew three walks, though Urias did have four strikeouts. Entering the start, he had issued three walks all season over 24 innings pitched.
The prized left-hander has at least three punchouts in each of his six games (five starts) this season. Urias navigated his way through runners on base by getting a double play in the second inning and picking off a runner at first base in the third.
Then in the fourth, an inning that began on a walk and base hit, Urias benefitted from a line-drive double play and a caught stealing. On the season, Urias is now 3-1 with a 1.50 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 33 strikeouts in 30 innings pitched.
Opponents are batting just .176 against the 19 year old this season. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts revealed the club has held discussions on calling Urias up and placing him in the bullpen.
