While the front office of the Los Angeles Dodgers has done a phenomenal job in transitioning some talent farm their system to the Major League level, there is plenty talent throughout the organization.
Another indication of this is Double-A Tulsa Drillers center fielder Andrew Toles being named the Texas League Player of the Week for the period of June 13-19. In addition, High-A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes righty Joshua Sborz was named the California League Pitcher of the Week for the same time frame.
Toles went 13-for-27 with four doubles, two triples, five RBIs, and seven runs scored over the week’s worth of games. On the season, he’s batting .311/.353/.522 with 13 doubles, five home runs and 20 RBIs in 39 games.
The Drillers have been steadily collecting these accolades, as Willie Calhoun received the same honor twice in a span of three weeks.
Sborz made two starts, throwing a combined 10 innings and allowing just one run on four hits. He matched a season high with eight strikeouts in one of the outings. On the season Sborz is 7-3 with a 2.58 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and .208 opponent batting average.
Sborz was the 74th overall selection by the Dodgers in Competitive Balance Round B during the 2015 Draft. Sborz’s list of accomplishments this season includes being selected to the Cal League All-Star team.
Like the Drillers, the Quakes have previously been represented in the weekly honors, as as infielder Michael Ahmed was recently named Player of the Week.
