As expected the Los Angeles Dodgers reinstated Joc Pederson from the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday. In addition, the club recalled Luis Avilan from Triple-A Oklahoma City, and placed Casey Fien (elbow tendonitis) and Hyun-Jin Ryu (elbow tendonitis) on the disabled list.

Ryu’s DL stint is retroactive to July 9, while Fien’s is backdated to July 17. Losing Ryu to the disabled list leaves the Dodgers in need of a starter on Wednesday in the second of a three-game series against the Washington Nationals.

Reports of an issue in his throwing elbow surfaced Tuesday afternoon, and he’s currently expected to be sidelined an indefinite period of time. Ryu allowed six runs on eight hits in 4.2 innings in his lone 2016 start.

Fien was claimed off waivers from the Minnesota Twins on May 7 and sent outright to Oklahoma City. He went on to make 21 appearances for the Dodgers and had a strong showing early before again falling susceptible to the long ball.

Fien posted a 4.09 ERA with five walks, 19 strikeouts and seven home runs allowed in 22 innings. He allowed four homers in his last six games, including two on Friday.

Avilan has appeared in six games in three previous stints this season with the Dodgers, allowing three runs in 3.0 innings. As for Pederson, he spent the weekend playing in rehab games with Oklahoma City.

He logged 19 innings in center field and went 5-for-8 with four walks over three games. After injuring his shoulder while making a catch at Miller Park, Pederson was formally placed on the disabled list on July 1, though it was retroactive to June 29.

The Dodgers started Trayce Thompson, Andrew Toles and Yasiel Puig in center field during the games Pederson missed. Thompson has since been placed on the DL due to lower back irritation.
