The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled Grant Dayton from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday, and optioned Brock Stewart to Triple-A. Stewart was used in a spot start Wednesday and struggled through four-plus innings.

In just his second career outing in the Majors, Stewart allowed nine runs on 10 hits, four of which were home runs. Colorado jumped on the right-hander early, scoring five runs in the first inning.

Stewart has allowed a combined 14 runs, all earned, and five home runs in nine innings pitched across his two starts with the Dodgers.

Dayton’s arrival gives the Dodgers nine relievers, which they presumably will carry until Rich Hill is activated from the disabled list.

Dayton threw seven pitches in one inning for Oklahoma City on Wednesday and last pitched July 30 prior to that.

The left-handed reliever made his Major League debut on July 22 in St. Louis, throwing two scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Dayton has a 2.42 ERA, 0.78 WHIP, 91 strikeouts and 11 walks over 38 games (52 innings) this season between Double-A Tulsa and Oklahoma City.

He joins a weary bullpen that lost Louis Coleman and Adam Liberatore to the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday, and found tough sledding through the first two games against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field.
