The Los Angeles Dodgers placed Grant Dayton on the 10-day disabled list due to neck stiffness and recalled Scott Van Slyke from Triple-A Oklahoma City. Dayton previously spent time on the DL this season due to a left intercostal strain.

He last pitched June 30 against the San Diego Padres, allowing one run on one hit, issuing one walk and striking out one in 1.2 innings. Overall this season, Dayton is 1-1 with a 3.63 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, 12 walks and 20 strikeouts in 22.1 innings over 27 games.

Of his relief appearances 22 have been scoreless efforts. Dayton pitched in 25 games last season with the Dodgers.

Scott Van Slyke was twice sent to Oklahoma City in May, first when Franklin Gutierrez returned from the DL, and again once Adrian Gonzalez was activated.

Van Slyke is just 5-for-41 with one double, two home runs and three RBI in 28 games with the Dodgers this season. He’s appeared in nine games (five starts) at first base, 11 games (two starts) in left field and one game each in center and right field.

During his time with Oklahoma City, Van Slyke batted .233/.346/.361 with eight doubles, three home runs and nine RBI in 40 games.

With the roster move, the Dodgers are back down to a 12-man pitching staff, with four games remaining until the All-Star break.
