Triple-A Oklahoma City shortstop Gavin Lux was named the Pacific Coast League Player of the Week for games played from July 15-21, 2019. The honor was the latest in what’s been an impressive season for the Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop prospect.

Lux started in all seven games during the period he was recognized for, going 15-for-30 and batting .500/.595/1.133 with two doubles, one triple, five home runs and 12 RBI. He produced four multi-hit performances and his 15 total hits ranked second in the PCL during the week.

Part of stretch also included a portion of Lux’s 16-game hitting streak and four consecutive games with a home run. He additionally had a five-RBI night and followed it by slugging a pair of home runs the following game.

The awe-inspiring performance not only garnered him PCL Player of the Week honors, but attention throughout the Dodgers organization and on a national level. “There’s a lot of good players in our system that are kind of knocking on the door,” Roberts said.

Oklahoma City manager Travis Barbary and hitting coach Scott Coolbaugh have similarly been left impressed by Lux, who began the 2019 season with Double-A Tulsa.

Prior to joining OKC, Lux hit .313/.375/.521 with seven doubles, four triples, 13 home runs and 37 RBI in 64 games for the Drillers. He and Dustin May represented the Dodgers in the 2019 MLB Futures Game at Progressive Field.

Lux’s play conceivably could earn him a second promotion this season — though one that may call for him to make his MLB debut. The Dodgers have not necessarily hinted at the possibility, but Lux joining the club once active rosters expand in September would not be a complete surprise.

This marked a second time Lux earned Player of the Week honors, as he previously did so in the California League for High-A Rancho Cucamonga in April 2018.
