Los Angeles Dodgers prospect Kyle Garlick was named the Texas League Player of the Week for the period of Aug. 28-Sept. 4. He’s the 10th player with the Tulsa Drillers to earn weekly honors this season.
The group includes Corey Copping, Matt Beaty, Erick Mejia, Jose Miguel Fernandez, Edwin Rios, Tim Shibuya, Kyle Farmer, Walker Buehler and Scott Barlow. Staring in seven games during the week he was recognized, Garlick went 9-for-25 (.360).
He posted a .500 on-base percentage and .720 slugging, hit three home runs, collected four RBI and drew seven walks. In 74 games with the Drillers this season, he’s batting .239/.321/.463 with nine doubles, 17 home runs and 42 RBI.
Garlick’s season was interrupted at the end of May due to a broken hand that caused him to miss two months. Despite that, he finished the regular season tied for fifth-most home runs in the league.
Garlick’s strong stretch helped carry the Drillers to a second-half North Division title and first trip to the playoffs since 2014. They were also buoyed by Matt Beaty, who became Tulsa’s first player to win the batting title.
The Dodgers selected Garlick in the 28th round of the 2015 Draft. He spent last season with High-A Rancho Cucamonga and the Drillers. Over 267 career Minor League games, Garlick is batting .293/.354/.518.
