The Los Angeles Dodgers had two prospects recognized at the end of the April, with Edwin Rios being named the Texas League Player of the Week for games played April 24-30. DJ Peters of High-A Rancho Cucamonga was named California League Player of the Week.

Rios went 13-for-24 with four doubles and six RBI over the six games that earned him honors, good for a .542/.538/.708 battling line. Rios’ best performance came April 24, when he was 5-for-5 with two doubles and four RBI.

The Dodgers selected Rios out of Florida International University in the sixth round of the 2015 Draft. He began his professional career with the Arizona League Dodgers, then joined Rookie-Level Ogden after two games.

Rios opened last season with Low-A Great Lakes and spent 42 games with the Quakes before earning a promotion to the Drillers. He hit .254/.304/.434 with seven doubles, five home runs and 17 RBI in 33 Double-A games.

Last year ended with Rios being named the Dodgers’ Minor League Player of the Year and participating in the Arizona Fall League.

Overall this season, the 23-year-old is batting a blistering .379/.409/.609 with eight doubles, four home runs and 21 RBI. Earlier this year, he clubbed a home run out of ONEOK Field.

Rios ranks second in the Texas League in batting average, 10th in on-base percentage, and third in slugging and RBI.
