Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Not Ruling Out Potential Disabled List Stint For Justin Turner

The Los Angeles Dodgers put together an impressive showing against the Atlanta Braves over the weekend, but did so without the services of third baseman Justin Turner, who was sidelined for all three games while dealing with continued wrist soreness.

Turner, who missed the first seven weeks of the regular season after fracturing his left wrist in Spring Training, had previously managed to stay on the field for the most part since making his debut on May 15.

The 33-year-old’s hiatus was expected to be brief, as the original plan indicated he would return to the lineup on Sunday for the finale of the three-game series against the Braves. But Turner’s wrist issues persisted and prevented that from happening.

Now in the wake of missing three consecutive games, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts isn’t eliminating the possibility of Turner potentially returning to the disabled list, per Ken Gurnick of MLB.com:

After a lengthy pregame meeting, Turner was not placed on the disabled list, although Roberts didn’t rule out the possibility of it happening retroactively.

With off days on Monday and Thursday, the Dodgers should soon have a better idea on whether Turner will be able to cope with the pain in his wrist and avoid a disabled list stint.

Turner is expected to be in Tuesday’s lineup for an Interleague matchup with the Texas Rangers. He recently acknowledged that there will be better days than others until his left wrist completely heals.

In 19 games this season, Turner is hitting a relatively mild .243/.325/.343 (85 OPS+) over 80 trips to the plate with four doubles, one home run and 10 RBI.

Despite not producing at the level he is accustomed to, Roberts credited Turner for helping keep the club together in the face of adversity earlier this season.
