Dodgers News: Danny Espinosa Signed To Minor League Contract

The Los Angeles Dodgers signed veteran infielder Danny Espinosa to a Minor League deal, and he was in the Triple-A Oklahoma City lineup on Sunday, playing shortstop.

Espinosa has played eight Major League seasons, with the first seven coming with the Washington Nationals. He has made his way around the league since the start of the 2017 season though, spending time with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Seattle Mariners and Tampa Bays Rays in 2017.

He then signed a Minor League contract with the New York Yankees this past offseason before being released in the middle of the spring. Shortly after, Espinoas signed a Minor League deal with the Toronto Blue Jays but again was released on April 29.

Over 13 games this season with Triple-A Buffalo in the Blue Jays organization, Espinosa hit .232/.271/.286 with three doubles, five runs scored and two RBI.

In his eight Major League seasons, Espinosa has batted .221/.297/.378 with 98 career home runs. His best season came in 2016 when he hit 24 home runs and drove in 72 runs for the Nationals.

Espinosa widely hasn’t been that productive with the bat in his career though, which is the main reason he has bounced around so much the last two years.

With Corey Seager out for the season after undergoing Tommy John surgery, Espinosa will provide the Dodgers with some infield depth at Oklahoma City. He has played all four infield positions as well as left field in his career.
