Further testing revealed Corey Seager suffered a Grade 1 right hamstring strain, Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Saturday. Seager is considered day-to-day and is available to pinch-hit in the second of a three-game series against the Colorado Rockies.

Roberts added the club would wait two to four days before inserting Seager back into the lineup. He was removed Friday night after just two innings due to what was initially diagnosed as a hamstring cramp.

Seager remained in the game after being checked on by Roberts and a trainer, and scored on Justin Turner’s base hit to right field.

The young shortstop was hopeful the cramp would subside and his hamstring would loosen up. However, after running the bases, Seager determined that would not be the case and felt it necessary to come out.

Roberts believed the “prudent” move would help Los Angeles in managing the issue. Seager also expressed optimism he would avoid the disabled list, having dealt with similar tightness/cramps in the past.

On the season, Seager is batting .298/.403/.506 with 19 doubles, 12 home runs and 39 RBI over 73 games.

Kiké Hernandez took over at shortstop in the series opener against the Rockies, and he receives the start Saturday night. The Dodgers presumably will rely some combination of Hernandez and Chris Taylor for however many games Seager misses.

Hernandez is making his sixth start at shortstop this season, while Taylor has only made one start up the middle.
