Clayton Kershaw earned the 200th win of his illustrious career in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 5-0 shut out of the New York Mets on Tuesday, and in doing so set multiple MLB records in the process.

Kershaw reached 200 wins in 288 career decisions, giving him a winning percentage of .694. That is the highest in MLB history among pitchers with at least 200 victories. The three-time Cy Young Award winner also lowered his career ERA to 2.48, which is the best mark among pitchers with 200 wins since 1920.

Furthermore, Kershaw is the only pitcher in the Live Ball era with at least 200 wins and an ERA below 2.50. The left-hander is in the midst of his 16th MLB campaign and has continued to pitch at a high level.

After throwing seven scoreless innings against the Mets, Kershaw improved to 3-1 with a 2.52 ERA, 3.42 FIP, 0.92 WHIP and 9.4 strikeouts per nine in 25 innings across four starts this season.

Kershaw became the 121st pitcher in MLB history to reach 200 wins and only the third in Dodgers franchise history, joining Don Sutton (233 wins) and Don Drysdale (209). “It just means we’ve been on great teams,” Kershaw said about his milestone.

“I think that’s ultimately what a win signifies. It’s just over the course of the last basically 10-11 years now, we’ve gone to the playoffs, we’ve had great teams. There’s been a lot of pitchers that have pitched well, but maybe not have the team behind them to get those kind of wins.

“So just reflecting on that, just thankful for being a part of great teams. I mean, I think that’s what tonight signifies for me, is just looking back at all the different groups of guys that I’ve gotten to play with over the years.

“And maybe it hasn’t ended the way we want it to the postseason, but ultimately, winning all those games with those groups is special.

Walker Buehler: Clayton Kershaw showed why he is ‘GOAT’

Walker Buehler is expected to miss most, if not all, of the 2023 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery, but he remains an important part of the team and believes Kershaw reminded everyone why he is the greatest pitcher of all-time during his start against the Mets.
