Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Caleb Ferguson and his wife Carissa are expecting their first child together. The announcement was made by the couple on Instagram, who also revealed the child is due next May.

Ferguson becomes the third Dodgers player this offseason who is expecting a child in the near future, joining Cody Bellinger and Max Muncy, who already have one each.

Will Smith and his wife Cara also recently welcomed their first child, Charlotte Ann Smith, in the morning hours before the Dodgers faced the San Diego Padres in Game 4 of the National League Division Series.

Ferguson has been with the Dodgers since 2018 and is coming off another solid season that saw him post a 1.82 ERA, 3.00 FIP and 1.15 WHIP in 34.2 innings pitched (37 games).

It marked the left-hander’s first time on the mound since undergoing Tommy John surgery in September 2020, although he didn’t make an appearance until the middle of May after starting the season on the injured list.

Ferguson was also optioned back to Triple-A Oklahoma City following his 2022 debut with the Dodgers, before being recalled in early June. He additionally spent a few weeks on the 15-day IL due to left forearm tendinitis.

Ferguson is among the Dodgers players under team control who are set to go through salary arbitration this offseason. He is entering his second year of arbitration and won’t become a free agent until after the 2024 season.

Caleb Ferguson supports UCLA & USC leaving Pac-12 for Big Ten

While Dodgers manager Dave Roberts had a tepid view of UCLA changing conferences, Ferguson, a noted Ohio State fan, is looking forward to the Big Ten expanding its reach.

“I think it’s cool. We’re going to play some teams out here and see how Ohio State fans really travel,” Ferguson told DodgerBlue.com earlier this year.

“There’s kind of an ongoing joke between me and a couple of the trainers that are from the area, that UCLA is not going to stand a chance in the Big Ten, but we’ll compete. I think it’s going to be cool.

“I USC is going to be good in a couple years with Lincoln Riley being able to get some recruits in there. So to hire Lincoln Riley and then leave the conference, I feel like it’s a conference they probably could’ve ran with. I’m excited to see it happen though.”
