Dodgers News: Brooks Brown Released From Organization

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced Friday relief pitcher Brooks Brown was released from the organization. Brown was claimed off waivers from the Colorado Rockies last October. Jim Johnson was designated for assignment at the time to clear room for Brown on the 40-man roster.

Brown was sent outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City last December, and joined the Dodgers in Spring Training as a non-roster invitee. The right-hander never quite got going in camp as he was shut down with shoulder discomfort.

The lingering issue stemmed from an injury Brown battled last season during his time with the Colorado Rockies organization.

He appeared in 36 games for Colorado, going a 1-4 record with a 3.97 ERA, 4.26 FIP, and 1.46 WHIP.

Brown made his Major League debut with the Rockies in 2014, posting a 2.77 ERA, 3.71 FIP and 0.96 WHIP in 28 games. He’s spent parts of 10 seasons pitching in the Minors for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Detroit Tigers, Pittsburgh Pirates and Rockies.

Over that time, he’s a combined 50-65 with a 4.31 ERA and 1.42 WHIP. Brown averaged 6.6 strikeouts per nine innings during his time in the Minors, which is on par with his 6.3 average in games for Colorado.

Even if Brown managed to remain healthy or recover from the shoulder discomfort, he faced an uphill battle in cracking the Dodgers’ bullpen this season. Los Angeles now has 63 players in camp.
